My Newborn Babies

Emma ~ 1 week

Aidan ~ 1 week

Isaac ~ 1 week

After a month of speculating who Isaac looked like and with minor research we made our best guess of- a Stout in general b/c of the scowl and like Aidan b/c of the prominent nose and a certain little "sad/pouty" face he makes. Well, were we wrong!!!

I was digitally "shuffling" through photos to find pics for one of Emma's school projects. When I hit pictures of Emma's first weeks at home I about jumped out of my seat! OHMYGOODNESS! It's Isaac in pink with bows!
I'm embarrassed to admit that we've been saying for a month that Isaac was our first baby with hair. Well, actually that's a NO! Compared to Aidan yes, but as I look back Emma did in fact have hair and ironically enough it stuck up over her left year just as it does on Isaac. Her hair also had a rather long rat tail in the back...as does Isaac's. Their hair color, head shape and much of their face looks very, very similar. Looking at pics of all three with their eyes open there's just *something* similar in Emma and Isaac's eyes. Yet, Isaac resembles Aidan too. So confusing...but (yes I'm biased) all very, VERY cute as well!

So, now it's up to you all. The pics are posted above. In order Emma, Aidan & then sweet little (rollalicious) Isaac.

Labor Day~ of Isaac that is!

So, the labor story- not because any of you are interested in the details, but because this is where I log events I don't want to forget!!

We were scheduled to be induced at the Wesley Birth Care center at 7 a.m. on the 12th. As we pull in the parking lot, 15 minutes late, I see my 2 gal friends Audra and Shonda already there waiting on us! They had come wanting to pray with us before the eventful day. I was so relieved. I had struggled with lots of emotion the night before. Dropping off the other kids and just in sheer amazement that the 9 months were over. Many days and moments of the pregnancy weren't spent how I had hoped. Due to business and living life as a mundane day by day Matt and I had kinda grown apart. Not like marital doom, but living more as roommates and connecting little on what all was happening and about to change in our life.

We go check in while Audra and Shonda wait. Eventually they are allowed back. Starting the day with Audra and Shonda really helped me focus on what was about to happen. The miracle that had been developing for 9 months. Before they could even come back into my room that morning I was already in tears over if what I was doing was right. The nurse, charge nurse and Dr all tried to check me to only find me still at 2cm *to be generous said the nurse* (which I had been since 36 weeks!) and very, very high. Dr. had wanted to break my water, but with my current state she opted not. They could determine the baby was head down, so that was good.

This all really challenged if I had made the right decision to be induced. With Aidan when I arrived to be induced I was already a 4, so from the get go I knew this was going to be a longer day. I settled in hooked up to the pit, covered in prayer and now time to wait.

It was about 9-10 am when I started noticing a good pattern of contractions. Not painful. Strong menstrual cramps. Could still talk, move, etc through them. We got up and walked the halls a bit but funny enough my contractions stopped while I was up moving!?!? Lunch came and went without the baby I had planned. Matt made a few calls about 12:30 to let folks know it was taking longer than we'd hoped. At 1:30 the nurse paged the resident to come check me, but she was in a surgery so it would be about an hour before she could come. We had our first visitors at about 2...my "2nd" parents Jack and Joyce. They have been with a family member hospitalized next door at the hospital. Had a short visit and it was when they left I went to roll to my other side and I felt a trickle. My water??? A slight leak we discover. It was about 2:40 when the resident showed up.
She checked me and asked "What have they been saying you're at today?"
To which I reply "What do you think I am??" She smiled & wouldn't answer. So, I tell her I had been a 2 all day and for the past month for that matter.
"Oh, you're at 4!" She seemed excited about this. I was not. All day and FOUR? She precedes to break my water at a bit after 3 p.m. Still stating the baby was high, but this would help get things going.

Well within about 5 contractions I realize things just jumped into super sonic fast mode. The contractions were almost instantly 2 minutes apart and STRONG. It all happened so quickly that my breathing was less than good. So the hyperventilating that happened with Aidan's labor AND the nausea/vomiting that happened with Emma's labor all started. Contraction. Numb body from hyperventilating. Sick. Time for another contraction. No break for me to calm down.

They start mentioning Epidural, which they had mentioned earlier in the day. But I just felt they were pushing it to quick and I did NOT want things to slow down. It was already 3 pm and I was worried it would be to late in the evening as is and I would not have my Dr. there. But, then after about 2 more contractions and everyone telling me to slow down my breathing I told them I was going to need something to give me a "break". So I insist the resident check me again before they administer the epidural to make sure these massive contractions had done something!! She checks...a 5. WHAT???!!! I shouldn't need meds at a 5! Didn't w/ the other 2 kids! But with more convincing & worry for the baby w/ my poor breathing I cave. They all joke "I should go ahead & get it to get my $$ worth".

At 3:50 the anesthesiologist comes in as I'm saying...."O NO! Something is happening" The nurse says oh my don't push! The anesthesiologist say "Oh my do we have time?" By this time I'm begging for something- anything, assuming that at a 5 I still had lots of time and pain ahead of me. I hear one nurse behind me say "Honey why did you wait so long to get meds?" Excuse me?! Too LONG? This all "started" at a bit after 3 and it was only 3:30-3:45 at that point!! Heck she had checked me and I was only a 5 right before anesthesia walked in. Believe me if I had known I was going to go from 5 to complete in 10-15 min. I might have done several things different!!

At 4 pm they're rolling me over & can now see it's time! I was still feeling some pain, but better able to breath. Feeling a bit better and knowing the photo op that was coming I insist Matt brush my sweat plastered hair off my brow & face. Which made several in the room chuckle. We announce to the room full of staff that we need a girls name. A nurse had taken a poll of other nurses earlier in the day and Ellie was beating Amilya. With the additional votes of Dr. Lowden & the resident (along with Matt & I's vote) Ellie was the winner at about 4:05. Just in time for 3 pushes and...at 4:08...IT'S A BOY!! A peeing boy! He peed on me and in Dr. Lowden's face!!

What a surprise! Isaac Wayne Stout 9 lbs 11oz!! 21 in. long. With brown hair!!

So there it is the labor story that placed yet another perfect angel in our arms. I will forever feel blessed that Matt and I one- are easily able to conceive, two- have very uneventful and complication free pregnancies, and equally uneventful smooth deliveries that have given us 3 perfectly healthy babies!
The day concluded by the visit of a very proud big sister and brother. When Emma entered the room we inform her it's a boy and she is our only princess. Not sure of how her response would be. Her instant response was "Oh, good. Now I have a prince and a guardsman.". Oh, Emma! She was instantly ready to hold and kiss on Isaac. Aidan was more interested in the McDonalds they brought to eat and climbing all over mommy. Matt's parents brought them to visit us and kept them for a couple nights.

Chris, Mandy, Libby, Shelly along with Alex & Dylan, and the Kooser family all were our first night visitors. What a first night that would end up being...for a future blog!

Maternity Shoot

Well I bit the bullet. Threw caution to the wind. Pushed my nervousness and modesty aside. Tried my first attempt at making life "fair" & "even" for this 3rd child.

With the other kids I took pregnancy profile pics. Emma monthly. Aidan at the beginning, then 3, 6, & 9 months preggers. This one...uh...not so much. So, in order to make up for that I was determined to have some maternity photos taken. The most inspiring reason to do so was I knew Emma and Aidan could provide cuteness to the photos that might distract from myself being in the pics!! So, at 36 weeks we got all dressed up in our denim and black ready to pose. A fairly new photographer from back home had recently started up In His Image Photography. She is a super sweet spirited girl with a good eye at her in home studio. July 12th was the date and was just in time I might add because it was in the final 3 weeks of my 117 weeks of total pregnancies that my belly gave way to strrrrrrretching shall we say. Not too bad...but a bit around what used to be my belly button! Without further ado here's the pics of the hidden Stout Sprout #3 and fam...

Fair Days

Last weekend I headed home for the Melvern Fair Days. It's been an annual trip for at least me and the kids. This year we arrived on Friday evening and came home Sunday afternoon. I will admit this year it took every bit of energy I could muster up to go. Simiply the prep to pack was tiring and the drive was something my feet and back feared.
However, 2 things won out. Seeing family and....HOT BEEF!
As a child the only 2 places you could get this type of sandwich was at fair time and at the Methodist church "Penny" suppers held on Saturdays throughout the summer. My plan was to average 2 sandwiches per day and succeeded in that mission! My Dr. would be proud of the protein it supplied my body, because typically meat has been something I've avoided! Yummo for the baby!

When we arrived Friday night it was beyond hot and very, VERY still. I was hangin' in there, but the kids literally were miserable. Poor Emma and her thin hair looked as if she had stepped out of the shower. Hair drenched. Aidan refused to do most rides...except the stupid jumpy, bounce house. Seriously, $3 for him to jump for about 3 minutes...and it was his favorite! Emma got the arm band and barely came close to making it worth the $$. We eventually retreated to Mimi's to do some skinny dipping in her pool....the kids....not us adults! :)
Saturday AM was an early rise to get ready for the Kids Games. Kids of all ages gather at the school ball fields to participate in various games such as running, tire race, 3 legged race, shoe race, bike races, on and on... The girls love participating to earn $$ for rides. $1 for first, .50 for second, and .25 for 3rd. Emma earned enough for maybe 1 1/2 rides! Aidan even joined in the fun this year. He ran the race, shoe race and tire race. The tire race was the best! My cousin Beth got him started, I was at the finish line with the camera and to encourage him to come the right way. He rolled the tire once, it fell and he looked around and took off running for the line. He was like "forget that tire...I'm runnin'". So CUTE! Emma and Madison did great at the 3 legged race. Not saying they had the best form...but they don't judge on that!
Tired from the races we rate some of the best pizza around for lunch! What a treat! Hot beef & Buzzards pizza!!! Full tummy- time for a nap. The boys napped, my sis and the girls went up town for the Old Fashion Games. Egg toss, water balloon toss, digging in hay for $$, haybail toss, nail driving, turtle races, and jalopeno eatting contest. Once rested time to eat dinner and get our spots for the parade. We have always sat on Main Street in my grandparents yard, but after the death of my Grandpa 2 years ago the house has finally been sold however the current owners were more than willing to let us enjoy our annual spot. The kids always enjoy watching Papa march with the legion. Not sure if it's appropriate but they scream and cheer when they see him....I think we're all supposed to stand...probably quietly at attention as they carry the flags!! :) Fire trucks are a thrill to Aidan so considering that was 1/2 of the parade he was in heaven! This year's parade also included a Drumline...it was awesome! We gathered 1/2 a bag of candy from the parade and ran off to the park for the homemade ice cream social. Yummm My kids got to choose their 3 favorite rides to ride before leaving. Perfect timing as the rides were over a rain shower/sprinkle came through and gave us the perfect excuse to head to Mimis. Saturday night was soo much more enjoyable as there was a nice breeze and a bit cooler!

I stuck around for lunch on Sunday again gathering the energy for the trip home. Within about 15 minutes from Melvern my feet were in baaaaaad shape...or at least a round puffy shape. The kids slept the entire way so the quiet was very much enjoyed.

So that was Fair Days until next year....we'll have to go up on Thursday next year for the FINAL time of being in the baby show!! Michelle, my cousin and myself will all have little ones competing for first!! [Side note: my hopes are not set on a win...the judges in the past have seemed to suffer from visual problems....I mean come on!!Look at these babies...]

Brennan Reunion

Last weekend we traveled to Oklahoma City to attend the Brennan Family Reunion. The Brennans have been hosting a reunion every other year since 1989. A lot has changed since that first reunion held at Stumble Stone Acres in Cape Fair MO. We've lost several cherished loved ones through the years, yet each time we get together it's a great time. Here's a photo of everyone in attendance this year. It was actually a small crowd compared to some years in the past. Most attendees were my mom's siblings and their children/grandchildren. Of course THE "Brennan" himself Grandpa John was there. It just simply wouldn't have been the same without him!!! So glad God has given him the health to travel!! Thanks again to Joe & Rodney and Gary & Patty for your hospitality!!

Below is my mom and 5 of her seven siblings with Grandpa. Not pictured Lisa & Vic.

Here are the Grandchildren of Grandpa Johns. Mike, myself, Brooke, Amber, Melissa, Jenny, and my crazy brother. Not pictured: Marcia, Brian, Megan, Beth, Diane, Nathan & Amanda.

Below are a few of the Great-Grandchildren. Pictured are Dallen, Madison, Emma & Aidan. Not pictured: Sabastian, Jarod & of course the coming Stout Sprout!!

Here's a shot from the 5th Reunion (2nd held at Stumble Stone) in 1997. Look at all those people!!

Saturday morning of our reunion weekend we went to the OKC zoo. Here's a pic of the 4 kids before hitting the zoo hard!

Emma with her gorilla friend.

Aidan and his friend tortoise.

Madison- lookin' in a mirror?? :)

Mimi and her buddy Dallen riding the tortoise.

Beautiful pic of Madison, Mimi & Stacy.

The muscles behind our zoo adventure. Matt was a trooper pushing a cart full of little boys or little girls through the heat!
Yes! I was actually there! Here's a shot of an exhausted mommy and her 2 kids after our Zooventure!!

The boys didn't make it long out of the zoo before crashing!! It was nap time!

Our hotel had an indoor pool so the kids enjoyed swimming Fri. night, Sat. afternoon and even Sun. morning between breakfast and check out! Dallen preferred the hot tub, the girls enjoyed splashing on the stairs, but Aidan took COUNTLESS jumps into the water! He is fearless about jumping in!! He would count before jumping...1,2,1!!!! As soon as he hit the water he would say "More, MORE!".

Sweet shot of Madison and Emma snuggled up catching their Zzz's for the Zoo! I think the swimming made them tired!

After a good nights rest and some breakfast they are ready to hit the Zoo!
Another exciting event of the weekend (which I forgot to take a picture of!!!) was going to dinner with Jason and Meg!! It was great to see them and was a chance for Jason and Matt to meet!! We look forward to seeing them again soon!

Wellp the OKC trip will probably be one of my last trips too far from Wichita until post new Stout Sprout. I do have 2 short trips planned to go back home...but don't think this preggo body will cross Kansas state lines until after August!!

Stout Sprout, Middle Sprout & Big Sprout

I forgot to log my info from my last OB visit. I went in last Thursday for my 1 hour glucose test and 28 week appt. So far I've heard nothing from them and they said no news is good news as far as the glucose test that mean I passed...I didn't with Aidan and as I swallowed the last bit of lemon lime yumminess I prayed it would be my last sip EVER!! :) (update: received a call while working on this blog...no diabetes, but low hemoglobin...take iron) I'm measuring right on which shocks me as I feel ginormous! The active little sprout had a heart rate of 153 bpm and the PA made her prediction, which matched Dr. Lowdens...Girl. We'll see if their years of med school has paid off! :) Then came the funniest part of the visit and perhaps any pregnancy I've had to date!!! She commented that if I didn't gain a bit more weight by my next appt I should maybe consider nutrition shakes to add some calories to my diet. Come again, say what?!?!? I can't think of a time in my life I've been advised to increase my calories!! Ha! This may be a Dr. order I don't follow!!
PT is going great! I must admit I was highly doubtful it would be worth all my time going and $$ for sitters, but I must confess...my back is feeling great! At first the pain only went away for a day or so and by the time for my next appt the pain was back. BUT yesterday I strolled in happy to report my back & sciatica was great!! As typical for me one problem gone leads to another. The lovely hernia I've had (& PT was supposed to be helping too) has now lead to my most recent discovery yesterday...varicose veins. I'll spare anymore details in case a male from my fam ventures on to the site ;)

As for Middle Sprout he had his 2 year check up today. Or his 2 year weigh in as we were calling it. His nicknames of "Chunky Monkey" and "Big Guy" describe him well and then I must admit in the depths of my heart worry me. Makes me wonder as a mom if I should have been feeding him differently or if there's something I've done to contribute to his size. Once the nurse measured him it put me at ease a bit. He was 36 in. tall and 34 lbs. So at least he's not a square!! That put him in about the 90 percentile for both. Better in my mind than 90th for weight and 30th for height!! The Dr. said if he continued to grow at that rate he could be 6'3" tall. Wow that would please daddy and make a great defensive lineman for football! Hehehe! He got his shots like a tropper and off we went. We celebrated his birthday with a family party last Saturday afternoon. It turned out to be a beautiful day great for the kids to play on the new play set AND we put the men to work digging post holes for our new fence!! The theme was Thomas and my friend Karra (great cake baker for anyone in need of a cake...) made his AWESOME train cake!! Aidan was showered with toys particularly in the kind with wheels!! Sum total of wheels on all his birthday gifts...62!!! He got an outfit, Tball set, shovels, water guns and a cars plate/bowl/cup set too!
Blowin' out the candles-
Most of the gifts...62 wheels and all!

Yesterday Matt & I attended Emma's preschool graduation. It was also affectionately called the Preschool Olympic Ceremony. I was running a few minutes late so I missed the fighter jet fly over. Ok really, no there wasn't a fly over, BUT this was quite the event! I'm all about making it a special day for my child...and it was. However, the mainly 1 woman show this became was nuts. The music and "readings" by the children- cute. The children walking up and down little steps to receive diploma- cute. Sharing the answers to the questions they asked our children- cute. The 2 page poem written to the teacher about the children of the mom aka graduation natzi- ok whatever. BUT the toast that involved preschoolers with champagne glasses- not so cute. Simply not what I expected to happen at my 5 year olds graduation at a christian preschool!! Emma did not partake and was the only child that didn't do so. Call us crazy parents. Maybe we're a bit fanatical. Who knows- Emma will maybe be a wino later in life and this time of us standing on our principles meant nothing. It just felt wrong. Highschools don't allow goblets at proms anymore b/c it could appear to promote drinking. This wouldn't have been done at a 8th grade graduation either b/c of the same reason. But it's ok for preschoolers? The church and school is a different denomination than the church we attend, so I'm not sure if that is how this came about, or I question if the leaders of the church and school were even aware. I do want to add that I like her teacher and believe that this spun out of control by a mother who was struggling with the fact that her "baby" was graduating preschool. So- you tell me. Were we crazy to feel the way we did??
Graduate Emma
Throwing of the Hats
Teacher Ms. Herman & Emma
Enough on that rant- although I could go on!! We learned that her favorite part of preschool was playing with blocks and she wants to be a cooker when she grows up. She was adorable singing and said her part loud and clear. Emma looked beautiful in her "handprint" t-shirt she had made and I sported my matching handprint t-shirt she made me for Mother's Day...oh yes...cute...photo evidence below...placement of a few handprints were..umm..interesting! :)
I think it's so cute how she's holding her tummy in this picture!! We treated Emma to lunch after graduation and then headed home for her to dive into the treat bag she got.

How'd that happen?

How did it happen that my baby is 2! What a very, VERY long first year he/we had...but this 2nd one flew by! A fraction of the Dr. appts that kept us constantly going that first year. He became a great sleeper. Didn't cry all the time!! It's amazing to see him now so happy and cheerful. Puts a smile on everyone's face and is the most appreciative little kid I've ever met! He has a please and thank you for everything! Hope that lasts! He's a cute little butterball. He's my mama's boy. He's still got that baby face. He's active, rough and tumble little boy covered in scrapes and bruises from all his motion. And (I think) sensing what is coming has become a cuddler in the last couple weeks!!

Should this next one be a girl Aidan will always be my only mama's boy, however if it's a boy I know Aidan will be the sweetest big brother and show the "boy" ropes to a new little guy!

Happy Birthday Aidan!
